World Lindy Hop Day (May 26th) celebrates Lindy Hop, an African American social dance, originated in Harlem, New York City in the 1920s and 1930s.
Why May 26? This Day was established to commemorate dancer and choreographer Frankie Manning, who many people consider to be one of the main creators of this style of dancing. Since the 1980s, Frankie Manning’s birthday, ambassador of Lindy Hop, has inspired events across the globe in celebration of this dance. World Lindy Hop Day encourages people from all over the world to share the joy and benefits of this dance.
